Few things feel more at home in the Australian landscape than a post and rail fence. It follows the contours of the land, frames long driveways and gives acreage properties a sense of arrival.
There is something enduring about the way timber fencing sits within the landscape. It defines boundaries without closing them in, so the property still feels open and connected to its surroundings.
From the first glimpse of a driveway to the paddocks beyond the home, post and rail fencing helps create that unmistakable Australian acreage aesthetic. It suits established homesteads, contemporary country homes and working properties alike.
Beyond its appearance, post and rail fencing offers a practical and versatile boundary. It can define property lines, frame entrances, contain livestock and add structure around gardens and paddocks.
Most importantly, it adds a sense of permanence. With premium Australian timber and considered design, a Saltram Rural fence becomes part of the property rather than simply a boundary around it.
DESIGNED AROUND YOUR PROPERTY
Every property is different, so your fencing should be too. Rather than asking you to work out every specification, start with our Request a Quote form and let us take care of the details.
Tell us about your property, your ideas and what you need the fence to achieve. From there, our team can help you determine the right layout, timber, dimensions and finish for your project.
We can supply DIY fence kits, or work with you to create a complete fencing solution. We can also help design entrances, gates and the finer details that bring the whole property together.

POST & RAIL FENCE STYLES
FACE-FIXED
With a face-fixed fence, each rail sits against the front of the timber post and is securely bolted into position. This creates a clean, straightforward profile while allowing the natural character of the post and rail to remain visible.
Because the rails sit on the face of the posts, this construction offers flexibility across different fence layouts and is well suited to both rural and contemporary properties. It also provides a practical option when you want a simpler installation or a more defined timber profile.
FULLY MORTICED
Fully morticed fencing uses traditional timber joinery to create a strong, integrated connection between the post and rail. A recessed opening, known as a mortice, is cut directly into the post to receive the end, or tenon, of the rail.
The rail then sits neatly within the post rather than against its face, creating a more seamless and refined appearance. This traditional construction method gives the fence a distinctive sense of craftsmanship while creating a strong, durable connection between each component.
Both styles create a premium timber fence. The right choice comes down to the look, character and construction you want for your property.
